adoption requirements adoption process Now request this animal! adoption requirements adoption process Now request this dog! Are you looking for the epitome of a gentle, beautiful home guard dog? Then you've hit the nail on the head with Olaf! Olaf is affectionately called "Zen" by our Romanian volunteer, and this name fits him so incredibly well! The young male dog exudes calmness, reacts composedly and confidently to what happens to him, and is positively through and through. He is a people person and possesses an unspoiled and pure character. Olaf-Zen was raised in a picturesque village in Romania, a place like Bullerbü. Although he is currently limited to a small enclosure of about 40 square meters with his sisters Maggie, Ember, and Hope, and a few walks a month, he has enjoyed a quiet and loving life so far. The advantage is that he has retained a huge carefree attitude. The disadvantage is that he has only known this quiet, rustic life. He would need to adapt to the calm and patient life here. He should get used to all the environmental stimuli that accompany our everyday life. Everything should be experienced at his own pace. This is definitely possible, and we heartily wish it for this wonderful guy! Olaf is a home guard dog, and to his good fortune, he requires a primarily rural home. An enclosed garden or yard would be great, and regular walks in the woods and fields would be his life's joy. Our big Zen is a dog who doesn't ask for much in life. Besides a person he can love and a stable home where he can unfold himself. Are you the right person for him to show you our world with everything that goes with it? Olaf and his originally 8 siblings were found together with their mother one day by a Romanian volunteer in their hometown. After the mother disappeared overnight, she took in the nine orphans and built them a great outdoor enclosure. Since then, she has been taking care of the dogs and lovingly looking after their well-being. Five of the siblings are now happily rehomed in Germany. Olaf, Hope, Ember, and Maggie, however, are still patiently waiting for their heart's desire. With his impressive shoulder height of 79 cm, Olaf definitely belongs to the larger representatives of his breed. He is, in fact, an incredibly beautiful and special male dog who deserves the best on his further life path. When Olaf is allowed to leave the kennel, he already runs super calmly on the leash! He doesn't pull but orientates himself to the person. Olaf travels neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, and flea-treated with an EU pet passport. After a positive assessment, a foster home would also be a valuable first step. Thank you, dear Monika V. – with his name, you have given Olaf identity and visibility. As of: 26.05.

Alles in seinem Tempo kennenlernen dürfen. Stand:26.05.2026

About Olaf

What life with Olaf looks like

Olaf is a extra-large young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Olaf, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Olaf?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Olaf on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Olaf if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Olaf already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Olaf isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Olaf and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
