Ollek

Labrador Retriever · Male · Adult · 6 years

Our Labrador male, Ollek, is looking for a loving home where he can finally find peace and quiet. Unfortunately, we don’t have much information about his past. Ollek came to us after he didn’t get along with a dog already living in the household. As far as we know, he had been with his previous owner for less than 24 hours at the time, so there was hardly any experience with him there either. What we can say with certainty, though, is that Ollek is exceptionally friendly and open toward people. He enjoys being close to his trusted humans, loves attention, and meets people openly and affectionately. However, getting along with other dogs is currently more challenging for him. Therefore, we’d like Ollek to find a home as an only dog—a home where he doesn’t have to live constantly alongside other dogs. Whether his behavior can further improve with appropriate training and guidance should be assessed on a case-by-case basis. As a typical Labrador Retriever, Ollek brings many of his breed’s characteristic traits: He’s people-oriented, eager to learn, and loves being part of the family’s daily life. Labradors are intelligent dogs that need both physical exercise and mental stimulation. They usually enjoy activities such as scent games, dummy work, or shared outings the most. Another typical Labrador trait that Ollek possesses is his excellent appetite! He simply loves food and is almost always thrilled by a tasty treat. This makes him perfect for training—but at the same time, it’s important to ensure that treats are factored into his daily food allowance. Right now, Ollek could also use a few kilos of weight loss. With a tailored diet, plenty of exercise, and an active daily routine, he should be able to reach his ideal weight again. For Ollek, we’re looking for people with some dog experience who enjoy working with him, guiding him with love and consistency, and giving him the chance to settle comfortably into his new home. If you’d like to give a friendly Labrador with a big heart and an even bigger appetite a second chance, you’ll surely find a loyal companion in Ollek. Are you interested in meeting Ollek? Then we’d be delighted to hear from you.

About Ollek

What life with Ollek looks like

Ollek is a large adult labrador retriever dog waiting at Tierheim Mönchengladbach in Mönchengladbach.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Dogs and cats typically leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with an EU pet passport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Ollek, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Ollek?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Mönchengladbach handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Ollek on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Ollek if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Mönchengladbach will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Ollek already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Ollek isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Mönchengladbach early rather than rehoming privately; they know Ollek and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
