Orion &#8211

Mixed Breed · Male · Young · 3 years

When adopting a puppy, one must always be aware that the cute little fur ball, which could easily be tucked under your arm and slept 22 hours a day, will quickly turn into a teenager. Equipped with selective hearing, glitter in their head, and new muscles (and for some breeds, also corresponding size), growing dogs explore the world—while delighting in driving their two-legged companions to the edge of madness. During this time, experienced dog owners collect experiences they can later laugh about and fondly remember with a shake of the head and a smile. The dog owner who only wants the cute puppy and the perfectly trained (which the dog naturally has to do) everyday companion will soon hit limits—and the four-legged one is always the one who suffers. Orión is exactly such a case. The handsome Shar Pei-Podenco mix (a highly exciting mix, which probably also has a few drops of German Shepherd added) was adopted as a baby by a family. Then came adolescence, and Orión demanded mental stimulation, play, and leadership—and if he wasn't occupied, he found his own hobbies. This is where the vicious cycle began: the dog was under-stimulated, the people were overwhelmed—and Orión was pushed further and further away from the family. Most of the time, the sad, now two-and-a-half-year-old (as of May 2023) male dog spent alone, and eventually his owners decided he had to go back to the animal shelter. Well, although this is sad, it could also be the best turn in Orión's life. Now he has the chance to find a family that appreciates his wonderful character, wants to explore the world with him, play ball, and also take care of making sure the friendly male dog continues learning how to behave in society. Orión is as energetic as a Podenco and has his own mind like a Shar Pei, but he is an extremely sociable dog and despite his Asian genes, he is very obedient and is already enthusiastically learning his first commands at the shelter. Some dog experience would certainly be beneficial for a fun mix like Orión, although he really presents himself as a beginner dog at Arca Sevilla. Orión has strength and a lot of power; he is becoming an adult and needs people who accept him as he is, but who can also set boundaries when necessary and explain his new freedoms!

About Orion &#8211

What life with Orion &#8211 looks like

Orion &#8211 is a young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. in Gernsbach.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Orion &#8211, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Orion &#8211?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Orion &#8211 on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Orion &#8211 if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Orion &#8211 already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Orion &#8211 isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Orion &#8211 and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
