Orlando

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 3 years

Orlando - on the way back to life Orlando came to the animal shelter in very poor condition: underweight, weak, and marked by a past we can only speculate about. Thanks to veterinary care and regular treatment, he is recovering increasingly and regaining strength day by day. Despite everything he has apparently experienced, Orlando shows himself to be a balanced and approachable dog. During walks, he calmly and relaxedly encounters everyday stimuli such as cars, cats, and even a horse, without fear or excitement. Orlando has not lost his trust in people - on the contrary: he likes to make contact, enjoys petting, and relaxes in the grass. Orlando gets along well with other dogs. He lives peacefully with companions at the animal shelter and appears friendly and social even in their presence. Unfortunately, Orlando tested positive for leishmaniasis. However, with the right medical care, nutrition, and regular check-ups, he can cope well with the disease. Of course, we as an association support interested adopters with questions regarding the illness and care. What Orlando needs now is a quiet, stable place where he can arrive and continue to recover. A home that gives him time to build further trust and find peace - and people who are willing to accompany him patiently and reliably on his further journey. Orlando is not a dog seeking pity. He is a dog with potential who has already achieved a lot and will continue to develop with the right support: step by step into a new, better life! If you are aware of what comes with adopting a shelter dog, and you have fallen for the rescue dog, please contact the responsible adoption officer of SALVA Dog Help. We and Orlando would also be very grateful for the provision of a foster home! Here goes the video of Orlando Here goes Video 2

About Orlando

What life with Orlando looks like

Orlando is a adult mixed breed dog waiting at SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. in Germany.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Orlando, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Orlando?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Orlando on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Orlando if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Orlando already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Orlando isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Orlando and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
