Adopt Paco

Mixed Breed · Male · 9 years

"Will be Second Dog" Gender: male, neutered Date of Birth: January 2015 Size: just over knee-high Since in animal shelter: January 2024 Gets along with dogs: yes Has children in the same household: no Looking for a home: House with a garden in the countryside for a second dog Paco, the mixed-breed male born in 2015, is curious but very insecure. Currently, Paco wears a chest harness and walks nicely on the leash. However, crowds of people or vehicles stress him out – with a second dog by his side, he handles these situations without problems. He also approaches strangers, leans against them, and waits – but one should not attack him, as he cannot tolerate it, but also does not necessarily run away. Since Paco constantly searches for affection, his body language must always be considered. Unfortunately, a bite incident occurred with his previous owners during petting, as his body language was overlooked. We are looking for a home for this well-tempered male dog with a second dog in a house with a garden.

About Paco

What life with Paco looks like

Paco is a medium-sized adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutz Austria in Vienna.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Note from the shelter: History of biting incident due to body language misinterpretation. Needs careful handling and understanding of stress signals.

🇦🇹Adopting from Austria

Austrian shelters follow the federal Tierschutzgesetz framework: adopters sign a Schutzvertrag (protection contract) committing to the animal's welfare. Spay/neuter, microchip, and vaccinations are included; fees typically range €150–€350.

Frequently asked

Adopting Paco, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Paco?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutz Austria handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Paco on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Paco if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutz Austria will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Paco already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Paco isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutz Austria early rather than rehoming privately; they know Paco and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
