Patachon

Mixed Breed · Male · Senior · 11 years

Patachon was rehomed to Nemt in November 2015. German German Shepherd mixed breed My name is Patachon. I am male, will be neutered and vaccinated before being given away and I was born in 2014. I have been waiting for a new home since September 2015. I am about 60cm tall. This is what my caretakers say about me: Patachon was brought to our animal shelter together with his brother Pat. After initial uncertainty, he thawed out quickly and is now enjoying the last summer days. Patachon is alert after getting used to things, but not a barker. He likes to please his human and would feel comfortable in a dog group where something is also learned alongside. From our point of view, Patachon is somewhat more shy than his brother Pat. He would be great for dog sports, and at his age he still needs to be occupied. He is house-trained, already very well lead on a leash, gets along very well with the female dog and his brother Pat in his pack, but other dogs would need to be tried. Unfortunately, both have not learned to be without each other. We are now beginning to take them out separately, so that they can get used to it slowly. In the new home, one should be prepared to relearn being alone from scratch. In return, both know living with children and there was also a cat in their previous home. Since Patachon is affectionate and very attentive, everything that still needs to be trained will be quickly implemented. He already has a lot of basic obedience, so you bring an enjoyable mix of tasks and work as well as play, fun and cuddles into your home. Patachon is a great family companion, would be suitable as a second dog, and is suitable for beginners. A house with a yard would be nice, but apartment living is naturally no problem if there is sufficient stimulation. Whoever cannot resist his loyal look should visit us quickly and take a look at him. The descriptions are impressions and recordings of the animal in our animal shelter and our foster homes. Each animal can develop differently in its new home. Walks well on a leash.

About Patachon

What life with Patachon looks like

Patachon is a medium-sized senior mixed breed dog waiting at Tierheim Schkortitz in Grimma.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Patachon, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Patachon?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Schkortitz handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Patachon on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Patachon if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Schkortitz will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Patachon already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Patachon isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Schkortitz early rather than rehoming privately; they know Patachon and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
