Adopt Paul 3

Mixed Breed · Unknown · Adult · 8 years

The Wollschweinmischling Paul was rescued from a research farm in Eastern Germany in August 2016 when he was about a year old. When pigs reach a certain size at these farms, they become more difficult to handle. Often, pigs from animal experiments end up at slaughterhouses as their last business. However, the animal caretakers at the research farm where Paul came from were kind-hearted, and they searched meticulously for a living place for Paul. "Tieroase am Regenbogen" then made contact with a guardian angel for animals and organized Paul's transport to Schwefe bei Soest in NRW. In April 2018, our pigs were all moved to the Hochsauerlandkreis, to Erflinghausen bei Meschede. This was because the veterinary office in Soest had made an order to install a second electrified fence, as the African swine fever threatened a contact with wild boars, and it had to be ensured that such a contact was definitely excluded. However, the fence would not have saved us from a possible stable duty if the African swine fever reached Germany. And in Schwefe, there were only small wooden open stables, in which the pigs could not be housed in an animal-appropriate manner if the free-range farming were forbidden. Therefore, we decided, with heavy hearts (because a move always means a lot of stress for both animals and humans), to find a new, safe place for our pigs. We found such a place in Erflinghausen bei Meschede. You can find a description of the foster home in Meschede under this link. The place has the great advantage that within a three-kilometer radius, there are no pig farms. If swine fever breaks out in a farm, all pigs within a kilometer radius are often killed out of precaution. A horrifying thought. The pigs are housed together in the stable with the same companions as on the pasture in Schwefe. Paul is in a group with Wollschwein Lilo, Attila, Filou, and Happy, as well as a sow named Sunny.

About Paul 3

What life with Paul 3 looks like

Paul 3 is a medium-sized adult mixed breed animal waiting at Schutzengel für Tiere e.V. in Drolshagen.

Every animal has their own temperament and history. The shelter knows Paul 3 far better than any listing can convey — ask about daily routine, ideal household, and what kind of adopter they're hoping for.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Paul 3, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Paul 3?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schutzengel für Tiere e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Paul 3 on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Paul 3 if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schutzengel für Tiere e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Paul 3 already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most animals on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Paul 3 isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schutzengel für Tiere e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Paul 3 and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
