Peggy

Jack Russell Terrier · Female · Adult · 6 years

Peggy is a super cuddly girl who wants all the attention and fuss from her humans! She has settled happily into her kennel here in the centre and loves when people walk past, but will also settle down into her bed for a snooze. When out and about she loves to spend time sniffing around her environment, and will even walk in zig zags to follow her favourite scent. She has behaved wonderfully with her handlers, loving every person that interacts with her during her outings and sometimes even preferring them to the dogs she meets! She hasn't shown a huge interest in her toys, choosing instead to entertain herself with lots of exploring and sniffing, and does have a taste for treats. She travels extremely well in the car, often falling asleep or looking out the window, although due to her size she may need a leg up to get in! If you're looking for a gentle-souled girl with loads of love to give, Peggy might just be the girl for you. Penny is a bubbly and friendly Terrier crossbreed who is a total social butterfly. She loves spending time with other dogs so whilst we don't have a history of her living with other pets, she could have a dog companion in the home pending a successful introduction. Since we also have no history of her living with children, we'd recommend that any children in the home be primary school age or up. Peggy is a clever girl and already has some training under her belt, but she still has the potential to learn lots of new things. She'll happily have a snooze or entertain herself when left alone for anything up to 4 hours, and she would hugely appreciate a private garden where she can explore, play and enrich herself! Being a people lover, Peggy will be very pleased to have regular visitors in her home whom she'll happily greet and receive some fuss from.

About Peggy

What life with Peggy looks like

Peggy is a extra-large adult jack russell terrier dog waiting at Dogs Trust Salisbury in Newton Tony.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Peggy, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Peggy?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dogs Trust Salisbury handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Peggy on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Peggy if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dogs Trust Salisbury will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Peggy already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Peggy isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dogs Trust Salisbury early rather than rehoming privately; they know Peggy and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
