Peppy

Mixed Breed · Female · Adult · 7 years

At the animal shelter since: June 2025 Estimated age: born around February 2019 Estimated shoulder height: about 40 – 49 cm Get to know our lovely Peppy directly in the video! Peppy, a loving little female dog with a big heart! Peppy was rescued from the street together with her puppies Shrek and Fiona by our caregivers. More information about how the dogs come to the animal shelter and answers to general questions can be found in our animal protection FAQ. Peppy is a friendly and very people-oriented female dog who greets visitors openly and affectionately. She likes to approach someone, seeks closeness and shows her affection through gentle cuddling and small kisses. She enjoys cuddles and kindly requests them in a charming and loving way. Furthermore, she often orientates herself towards her companion and returns on her own again to seek closeness. On the playground, Peppy appears curious and balanced. She explores her surroundings at her own pace, sniffs interestedly and moves freely. In between, she often stops by the human to receive affection. She notices environmental stimuli, but remains well reachable and quickly returns to contact. Peppy can be easily lifted and handled. Putting on the harness is also possible without problems. For Peppy, we are looking for a home where she receives both closeness and affection as well as orientation. With her loving nature, she has the best prerequisites to become a loyal and pleasant companion in daily life. Since she sometimes appears insecure towards other dogs at the animal shelter, we are looking for her a home as a single princess, where she can enjoy full attention and relax. We wish for this furry nose people who are aware that rescue dogs have a certain history. We can never predict how a dog will react to life in Germany. Therefore, we are looking for people who bring patience, perseverance, and goodwill. But one thing is certain: Whoever adopts instead of buys not only gives an animal a second chance, but actively decides against animal suffering and for a life with a very special companion by their side. Already in love? Send us a self-disclosure form! Adoption If you are considering an adoption, please read through the adoption process first. All dogs are vaccinated, microchipped, dewormed, treated for fleas and neutered (exception are puppies up to 6 months and very old dogs). Dogs older than 1 year are additionally tested for Mediterranean diseases. If you have any questions, feel free to send a message to our adoption team.

About Peppy

What life with Peppy looks like

Peppy is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Hunderettung Europa e.V. in Duisburg.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Peppy, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Peppy?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Hunderettung Europa e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Peppy on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Peppy if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Hunderettung Europa e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Peppy already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Peppy isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Hunderettung Europa e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Peppy and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
