Perun

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 5 years

Mixed-breed Perun—a sensitive male dog—seeks people with patience and a big heart. Perun is currently living at our partner animal shelter in Poland and is still getting used to his new life. The handsome mixed-breed male has only recently arrived, and much suggests that he hasn’t had much experience of the world so far. This is particularly evident when it comes to leashes; right now, they still fill him with great fear. It seems as though Perun has had little to no experience in his previous life wearing a collar or harness or walking on a leash. Despite his uncertainty, Perun shows absolutely no aggression. On the contrary: he’s an exceptionally gentle and friendly dog who actively seeks human company. He joyfully greets familiar people, thoroughly enjoys attention, and even actively asks for petting and cuddles. You can really tell how much he longs for security and a sense of belonging. With his appearance and behavior, Perun strongly resembles a Shiba Inu. The caregivers therefore suspect that he may carry genes associated with this breed. Shibas are often described as intelligent, sensitive, and independent dogs that can form a close bond with their humans—but at the same time, they also need understanding, patience, and respectful guidance. We know nothing about Perun’s past. Potential adopters should therefore be prepared for the fact that he still has a lot to learn and that some everyday situations might be completely new to him. He’s looking for people who won’t rush him but will give him the time he needs to build trust and develop self-confidence. For Perun, we’d like to find a calm home where he can gradually discover that the world isn’t nearly as scary as it sometimes seems to him right now. With patience, understanding, and loving support, this special dog has every chance of growing into a wonderful companion. Ideally, we’re looking for a permanent home for Perun. But even a foster home would be a huge help and would represent a significant improvement in his life. Adopting a dog from animal rescue means taking on a special responsibility. If you’re ready for that and would like to give Perun a loving home, the responsible adoption coordinator would be delighted to hear from you!

About Perun

What life with Perun looks like

Perun is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. in Germany.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Perun, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Perun?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Perun on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Perun if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Perun already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Perun isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Perun and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
