Adopt Petra

German Shepherd · Female · Senior · 11 years

Petra has had a happy life so far by her owner's side, living in a house with a garden. Unfortunately, her caregiver passed away, and the female dog was left alone. Her next home was a pet hotel, and then she went to a foster home. It turned out however that Petra is quite dominant and took over the dog of the house. Petra is already of an age. So we are looking for her home, where she will live a life similar to what she had before. We dream of a stable, calm, but still setting boundaries caregiver. Home - preferably with a garden - without dogs, cats, best without small children. She never lived with them before, so we don't know how she would react in a place where a lot happens. Petra goes out for walks with volunteers. At first, she pulls on the leash, but as more meters are covered, it becomes easier to lead her.

Petra wiodła do tej pory szczęśliwe życie u boku swojego pana, mieszkając w domu z ogrodem. Niestety, jej opiekun zmarł, a suczka została sama.

About Petra

What life with Petra looks like

Petra is a senior german shepherd dog waiting at Fundacja Dla Zwierząt Animalia Poznań in Poznań.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Petra, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Petra?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Fundacja Dla Zwierząt Animalia Poznań handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Petra on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Petra if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Fundacja Dla Zwierząt Animalia Poznań will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Petra already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Petra isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Fundacja Dla Zwierząt Animalia Poznań early rather than rehoming privately; they know Petra and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
