Pflegehund Joko

Mixed Breed · Male · Senior · 12 years

Joko, a male German Shepherd mix, was rescued from a Romanian killing station. He was friendly to humans but bullied by other dogs in a small kennel and struggled to assert himself. We explain how dogs end up in these situations and more in our animal welfare FAQ. Joko was lucky to be rescued and brought to a German foster home. This has many advantages: he can get to know his new life in a household and his character can be better assessed. In addition, foster dogs can be visited and met before deciding on an adoption. Joko is now settling in at the foster home. As soon as we can say more about his character, we will add this here. If you have fallen in love with him anyway, please send us a self-disclosure via the button below. Joko is a calm, affectionate and people-oriented male. He approached people in a friendly manner, let himself be touched everywhere and enjoyed petting very much. If you stopped stroking him, he gently demanded further attention with his paw. He seemed relaxed overall, barked little and did not react to barking dogs or the general unrest in the shelter. Joko currently has problems walking on his hind legs. Our placement team knows the exact health status best. If you have any further questions, please send us a message. It is important to us that Joko's new people have understanding for his age and his health development. What it means to adopt an old dog, you can read here. We wish for this furry face people who are aware that animal shelter dogs bring a certain history with them. We can never predict in the shelter how a dog will react to life in Germany. That's why we're looking for people who bring patience, perseverance and goodwill. But one thing is certain: whoever adopts instead of buying not only gives a second chance to an animal, but actively decides against animal suffering - and for a life with a very special companion by their side. Already in love? Send us a self-disclosure! Adoption If you are thinking of adopting, first read through the placement process. All dogs are vaccinated, chipped, dewormed, flea-treated and neutered before departure (except for puppies up to 6 months and very old dogs). Dogs older than 1 year are also tested for Mediterranean diseases. If you have any further questions, please write to our placement team.

In Deutschland seit: September 2026 Auf Pflegestelle in: 40231 Düsseldorf Geschätztes Alter: geb. ca. August 2014 Geschätzte Schulterhöhe: ca. 55 cm Geschätztes Gewicht: ca. 20 kg Lerne hier Joko direkt im Video kennen!

About Pflegehund Joko

What life with Pflegehund Joko looks like

Pflegehund Joko is a large senior mixed breed dog waiting at Hunderettung Europa e.V. in Duisburg.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Dogs and cats typically leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with an EU pet passport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Pflegehund Joko, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Pflegehund Joko?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Hunderettung Europa e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Pflegehund Joko on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Pflegehund Joko if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Hunderettung Europa e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Pflegehund Joko already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Pflegehund Joko isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Hunderettung Europa e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Pflegehund Joko and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
