Piky

adoption requirements adoption process Now request this animal! adoption requirements adoption process Now request this dog! Piky had the good fortune to be found by Adrian and thus found shelter at the Gini House, a private dog boarding facility. Here, he is fed daily and is occasionally allowed to run around the lawn. The handsome male dog, however, is very people-oriented, and even though he might be able to run and sniff around in an open space, he prefers to stay by a person and hopes for some cuddles. Piky is likely a mix of a German Shepherd and a Herding dog. One should be familiar with these breeds beforehand. German Shepherds, for example, are intelligent, loyal, and people-oriented, obedient, and like herding dogs, they thrive when kept busy and engaged. Piky is approximately 3 years old and has a sturdy build, standing at about 70 cm tall. He weighs at least 35 kg. Piky would be a dog that would enjoy long walks and tasks. Attending a positively working dog training class would certainly be beneficial. He currently gets along well with his fellow animals but tends to be more of a loner or would like to be the leader among other dogs. For him, a place without another dog would be ideal, but he also feels very comfortable with a friendly, unobtrusive female dog. Piky lived on the streets, even though he had an owner. Sadly, he would lie at the same spot every day until Adrian finally (with the owner's consent) took him in – and Piky followed Adrian. The handsome male dog is very clingy, and once you've grown close to him, nothing will come between you. We cannot say or test how Piky reacts to cats or small animals. Children should be familiar with handling dogs. Piky is vaccinated, microchipped, treated for fleas, dewormed, and neutered for his new home. He will also be adopted after a positive foster home experience. In love with Piky? Then get in touch with us!

Vermittlungsvoraussetzungen Vermittlungsablauf Jetzt dieses Tier anfragen! Vermittlungsvoraussetzungen Vermittlungsablauf Jetzt diesen Hund anfragen! About Piky

What life with Piky looks like

Piky is a extra-large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Piky, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Piky?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Piky on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Piky if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Piky already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Piky isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Piky and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
