All Cats Piper Drucken Published: May 11, 2026 Breed: EKH Age: Female Neutered: Yes Color: black-white husbandry: Free roam Piper came to us from our partner organization, Tierhilfe Hoffnung. She is one of 23 cats living together with 114 dogs on a farm, who were secured by the Animal Protection Police. Piper is a cuddly female cat, but she clearly draws her boundaries. She is cuddly when she wants to be. If she doesn't want to, she can communicate this quite clearly. Not very aggressive, but it is noticeable. Such a cat is called a character cat, and character cats are only for people who simply enjoy these wonderful beings and don't want to overly restrict them and just let them be as they are. Piper would like to be a solo princess. Often, we see her lying alone in the group or separating herself. That's just how she is, and that's fine. Pipers new family should not have small children. She can get along with dogs if they are cat-friendly and would like to live again with the possibility of free roam. It would be great if she could find a home in a rural environment. Would you like to meet Piper? For further information and/or to arrange a visit (or contact the foster home), please call the animal shelter at the number provided. A phone call in the morning between 9:00 and 12:00 or again between 14:00 and 16:00 would be ideal. Please understand if no one answers the phone immediately, as our office is not always staffed and our employees are often in animal care. So please don't give up and try again. This cat needs outdoor access.

About Piper

What life with Piper looks like

Piper is a large puppy/kitten mixed breed cat waiting at Tierheim Alsfeld in Germany.

Kittens are tiny chaos engines for about six months and then mellow rapidly. They need two scheduled feedings, a litter box per cat plus one extra, and somewhere high to climb. Spay/neuter happens around six months — most shelters arrange this before adoption.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Piper, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Piper?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Alsfeld handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Piper on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Piper if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Alsfeld will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Piper already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Piper isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Alsfeld early rather than rehoming privately; they know Piper and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
