Pippa

Dachshund · Female · Young · 1 year

Meet our little Pippa, a gorgeous miniature smooth haired Dachshund with a very sweet nature. Pippa is a worried little lady who can be sensitive at times, but once she has taken the time to build trust with you, she is a friendly and affectionate girl who loves showing you her softer side. Onsite, Pippa has shown that she is not yet housetrained, so she will need her new family to be patient and understanding while she learns this skill. She will need a secure, private garden where she can continue her housetraining at her own pace, as well as having her own safe space to explore without the worry of encountering unfamiliar people or other dogs. When out and about, Pippa has shown that she can feel conflicted around other dogs and may communicate this by being vocal. Our team have already started helping Pippa to build her confidence around dogs, and she will need owners who are happy to continue this work with her at home and out on walks. Because of this, Pippa would be happiest as the only dog in the home. Our rehoming team will talk through all of Pippa’s training and support needs with any potential new owners, both verbally and in person, to make sure everyone feels prepared to help her settle and flourish. Pippa hasn’t previously lived with children, and because she can be worried around people, we are recommending that she lives with teenagers and above. Her new family will need to be able to recognise and respect her body language and give her the space she needs when she is communicating that she feels unsure. Pippa is a wonderful little sausage with such a sweet heart and so much love to give. With patient owners who can help her feel safe and confident, we know this lovely little lady has so much potential to blossom. ng form and would like to know more about Poppy sausage, you can e-mail our rehoming team on to register your interest.

About Pippa

What life with Pippa looks like

Pippa is a small young adult dachshund dog waiting at Battersea Dogs & Cats Home in London.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Pippa, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Pippa?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Battersea Dogs & Cats Home handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Pippa on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Pippa if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Battersea Dogs & Cats Home will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Pippa already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Pippa isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Battersea Dogs & Cats Home early rather than rehoming privately; they know Pippa and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
