Pirat

Male · Senior · 10 years

Pirat is about 10 years old and has been waiting at the animal shelter for the homeless, "Promyk," since 2021 for its people. Despite difficult experiences, it remains an incredibly open, cheerful, and longing-for-human-company dog. This large, active dog loves long walks, ball games, and spending time with the caregiver. Pirat walks well on a leash, knows basic commands, and excels in human interaction. It is sensitive, enjoys cuddling, and being close to humans, but is not pushy. While it accepts other dogs, it does not show a greater need to build closer relationships with them. It is much more interested in people and shared activities. When it arrived at the animal shelter, it was in a very poor condition. Its snout was covered in matted clumps and scabs, and its eye condition required intensive treatment. Today, Pirat has undergone a great transformation, but still requires regular grooming and systematic visits to the groomer. This is a dog of a breed type that requires frequent brushing and conscious care of its coat. Pirat can also clearly communicate its boundaries. Sudden movements, excessive stimuli, or too intense grooming can cause stress. It is still learning to react calmly and is making progress every day. Quick take: around 7 years old, CIP number: 616093900973704, a large dog, vaccinated and neutered, active and people-oriented, walks well on a leash, knows commands, loves fetch, requires regular brushing and groomer visits. Pirat is one of those dogs that are truly hard to resist loving. It still waits for a home where it will be someone's best friend.

PL·Show original

Pirat ma około 10 lat i od 2021 roku czeka w Schronisko dla Bezdomnych Zwierząt „Promyk” na swoich ludzi. Mimo trudnych doświadczeń nadal pozostaje psem niezwykle otwartym, pogodnym i spragnionym bliskości człowieka. Zdecydowanie bardziej interesuje go człowiek i wspólna aktywność. To pies w typie ras wymagających częstego szczotkowania i świadomej opieki nad sierścią. Pirat potrafi również jasno komunikować swoje granice. Nagłe ruchy, nadmiar bodźców czy zbyt intensywna pielęgnacja mogą wywołać u niego stres. Nadal uczy się spokojnego reagowania i każdego dnia robi postępy. Szybka ściąga: około 7 lat, nr czip: 616093900973704, duży pies, szczepiony i kastrowany, aktywny i kontaktowy, świetnie chodzi na smyczy, zna komendy, uwielbia aportowanie, wymaga regularnego szczotkowania i wizyt u groomera. Pirat to jeden z tych psów, których naprawdę trudno nie pokochać. Wciąż czeka na dom, w którym będzie mógł być po prostu czyimś najlepszym przyjacielem. About Pirat

What life with Pirat looks like

Pirat is a large senior dog waiting at Schronisko Promyk Gdańsk in Gdansk.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Pirat, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Pirat?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko Promyk Gdańsk handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Pirat on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Pirat if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko Promyk Gdańsk will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Pirat already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Pirat isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko Promyk Gdańsk early rather than rehoming privately; they know Pirat and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
