Pirato

Mixed Breed · Male · Puppy · 4 months

Our partner Sandra is known in her community for helping animals in need. This is also the case with this young dog. Allegedly, he wandered into a family who couldn't keep him. We don't know how much of this story is true. Ultimately, it doesn't matter. What's important is that nothing bad happened to the young dog, that he wasn't abandoned or put in one of those miserable canile. After we agreed to help, Sandra brought the young dog to her pension at the end of March 2026, where we met him during our team project tour in mid-April 2026. Pirato - we named him this because of his distinctive black spot around his right eye - is a very friendly, open-minded young dog who enjoyed our attention and affection.Pirato has now been chipped and registered and, for organizational reasons, has moved to Paola and Pierpaolo's rescue in Stintino. There, he lives with two other dogs in one of the spacious enclosures and seems to be very happy there. But even though Pirato is doing well in the rescue, his stay there should only be short-term. We want to bring him to Germany as soon as possible so he can move in with his final family here - ideally without another detour through a foster home - so he can enjoy the rest of his puppy time and imprinting phase in a family environment.Would you like to take the lovable Pirato into your family and give him a happy dog life?June 27, 2026:Pirato was allowed to travel to his German foster home.September 4, 2026: Pirato found his home in early July and is now returning to it completely unscathed.

27. About Pirato

What life with Pirato looks like

Pirato is a puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at ProTier e.V. in Germany.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Pirato, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Pirato?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. ProTier e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Pirato on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Pirato if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — ProTier e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Pirato already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Pirato isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with ProTier e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Pirato and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
