Pitti

Mixed Breed · Male · Young · 2 years

Moppi and Pitti must unfortunately be given up due to health reasons and are now searching for a new home! Moppi and Pitti are both male, 1 1/2 years old and unneutered. The dogs are totally loving and cuddly in the house. In my opinion, both dogs are more suited for people who are familiar with dogs, as they are particularly afraid outside. Moppi (light) can be easily leashed without much trouble. Pitti (dark) always requires me to trick him to be leashed. Both dogs have had contact with my 14-year-old daughter and enjoyed it. They are afraid of the cries of small children. Both play with my 9-year-old female German Shepherd and with a 1 1/2-year-old male dog from a friend. We have not yet had contact with other dogs within sight, and they were quiet. When I sit on the couch, Pitti usually lies down next to me. Then I can also stroke him. This way, I can trick him to go for a walk. Otherwise, he runs away. When someone approaches with the leash, he runs away. Once outside with him, he also goes out, albeit reluctantly at first, but then it works and he does his business, provided he is not disturbed by anything. Otherwise, he immediately returns home. Otherwise, he is a quiet companion. Moppi (light) is also a quiet companion in itself, except when he asks other dogs to play, then he barks. He is totally loving and cuddly. He can be easily leashed by me, but he also has a fear of going out. He is insecure outside and thinks he is done very quickly. I am then also physically unable to hold him back. He also has a fear of any outside noises (including the noises of small children). With my female German Shepherd, I could also leave the two alone. Nothing was ever broken, except once a box, because they like to take paper apart. Otherwise, they are totally loving. Please contact me if you are interested.

About Pitti

What life with Pitti looks like

Pitti is a large young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierheim u. Tierschutzverein Kreis Ahrweiler e.V. / Tierheim Remagen. in Remagen.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Pitti, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Pitti?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim u. Tierschutzverein Kreis Ahrweiler e.V. / Tierheim Remagen. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Pitti on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Pitti if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim u. Tierschutzverein Kreis Ahrweiler e.V. / Tierheim Remagen. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Pitti already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Pitti isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim u. Tierschutzverein Kreis Ahrweiler e.V. / Tierheim Remagen. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Pitti and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
