Pluto

Mixed Breed · Male · Young · 1 year

mixed breed Pluto – a young dog with a big heart is looking for his luck. Pluto came to the Spanish animal shelter in April 2026 after being found alone on the streets. It is estimated that he was about one year old at the time. His condition upon arrival was shocking: he was severely dehydrated, full of ticks and fleas, and seemed to have already had to survive for a longer period on his own. But Pluto did not let all these hardships bring him down. Despite his unknown and likely not easy past, he shows himself at the animal shelter as a friendly, open, and lovable dog. He enjoys the company of humans, is delighted by every attention, and has adapted surprisingly well to the situation at the animal shelter. He has already been successfully paired with a female dog. The two get along well and spend regular time together in the run. His behavior towards other male dogs can be tested if needed. Pluto is young, curious, and full of life. That is why it is particularly hard to see him day in and day out behind the bars of his enclosure. A dog of his age should be allowed to discover the world, learn security, and be part of a family – not spend most of his day in a cage. We cannot change what Pluto experienced in his past. But we can help make his future different. For this wonderful young male dog, we wish people who will give him love, security, and stability and show him how beautiful a dog’s life can be. If you would like to give Pluto a home or help him find a better life through a foster home, please contact his coordinator.

About Pluto

What life with Pluto looks like

Pluto is a large young adult mixed breed dog waiting at SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. in Germany.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Pluto, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Pluto?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Pluto on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Pluto if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Pluto already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Pluto isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Pluto and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
