πŸ‘‘ Meet Poppy – Queen of the Castle! πŸ‘‘Meet Poppy, an 8-year-old crossbreed with very short legs and deserves the royal treatment! 🐾❀️Poppy is a lovely girl who came from a home where she was very much Queen of the Roost. She absolutely adores her people and loves nothing more than a good cuddle. With all that gorgeous fluff, she's also rather excellent at providing a warm cuddle companion! πŸ₯°Poppy has been doing amazingly well in her current foster home, where her subjects have spent lots of loving time helping her settle into a new routine and continue learning her basic commands. She will need a family who is willing to give her the time she needs to settle into her new routine, and be around to give her the time, attention and companionship she needs.Poppy would prefer not to rule her kingdom alone and would love to have a resident dog in the home to advise her on how to rule her new kingdom. 🐢❀️As part of her queenly beauty regime, Poppy has had a lovely groom and a dental. Her new family will need to be prepared to keep on top of her grooming and dental care going forward. πŸ‘‘βœ¨In true Queen Poppy fashion, she has very strong opinions about who is allowed into her kingdom! She cannot live with cats or small furries, as she will chase them off. However, she could live with dog-savvy primary-school-aged children. If you think you could offer this special girl the calm, loving home she's looking for β€” and don't mind living under the rule of a rather fabulous little queen β€”

About Poppy

What life with Poppy looks like

Poppy is a small adult chihuahua dog waiting at RSPCA Northamptonshire Branch in United Kingdom.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" β€” quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures β€” to let them settle.

πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Poppy, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Poppy?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. RSPCA Northamptonshire Branch handles screening and the adoption contract directly β€” TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Poppy on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Poppy if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad β€” RSPCA Northamptonshire Branch will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Poppy already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported β€” ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Poppy isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work β€” that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with RSPCA Northamptonshire Branch early rather than rehoming privately; they know Poppy and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect β€” names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
