Poppy

Mixed Breed Cat · Female · Young · 1 year

Personality:Poppy is a nervous girl who struggled with the cattery environment. She is now in a foster home where she feels comfortable to access her resources but is still fearful of interactions with her carers She likes the comfort of her own room to return to if she is unsure. Her foster carers use a hands off approach to give Poppy choice and control over interactions. During this time, Poppy has not wanted to initiate for contact from them. Behaviour:Poppy spends a lot of the day keeping to herself in the foster home. She feels most comfortable coming out of her room to explore when the house is quiet from the evening onwards. Overnight, she will play with her toys and her foster carers can sometimes hear her getting the zoomies. Poppy’s adopters will need to continue the hands off approach to respect her boundaries. Housing:Due to Poppy coming from a multi-cat household, it is unknown whether she has had much positive interaction with people. For this reason, Poppy is looking for her own unused room situated in the downstairs of the property where she can have full, easy access to the outdoors or a safe, secure, sheltered outbuilding or shed. This can be in a spacious garden or an alternative similar set up. Poppy’s adopters will need to use a hands off approach and live onsite to provide them with their essentials such as fresh food and water. It may be that she will prefer to live permanently like this but she may gradually build trust with their owners and surroundings and choose to live a more conventional lifestyle in a home. Please provide photos of your set up along with your application to process your application further. Please note, Poppy is currently in a foster home in Locks Heath. The successful applicant will be able to meet Poppy in his foster home with a member of staff present. Children/pets:Poppy will need to be cared and housed with adults only. She needs to be the only pet in the household/setting. Vet history:Poppy is neutered, microchipped, flea, wormed and fully vaccinated. Poppy has no known medical conditions. 4 weeks free pet insurance included with adoption Adoption fee:The adoption fee is £50. If you would like to make an additional donation over and above the adoption fee, this would be hugely appreciated. Additional information:All rented and leasehold properties will require written consent from the property owner or agent. This needs to be in place before completing an application form. If your application is successful, staff will request a copy.We reserve the right to remove a reserve at any stage of the adoption process if we believe it is in the best interest of the cat.Adopters should consider that previous medical conditions will now not be covered by insurance. About Poppy

What life with Poppy looks like

Poppy is a young adult mixed breed cat cat waiting at RSPCA Solent Branch CIO - The Stubbington Ark in United Kingdom.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Poppy, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Poppy?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. RSPCA Solent Branch CIO - The Stubbington Ark handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Poppy on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Poppy if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — RSPCA Solent Branch CIO - The Stubbington Ark will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Poppy already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Poppy isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with RSPCA Solent Branch CIO - The Stubbington Ark early rather than rehoming privately; they know Poppy and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
