Poppy

Mixed Breed · Female

FACTSHEET: ALL ABOUT Poppy Pictures (click to enlarge previews) Will you let Poppy be your favourite flower? Poppy is very affectionate and craves attention. She is bright and enthusiastic, she learned to walk on leash very quickly and loves coming out with us. Her favourite thing is to have a person sit with her and spend time together, she wants to be stroked and basically have company. She should settle in well to a home where she can have company most of the time, as she does just relax alone when we are not around. She finds it very frustrating and lonely to be in the shelter, so we hope to find her a home. Poppy was living in a small village in the countryside near Argos. We took her in only for sterilisation and testing, however she tested positive to leishmania so we needed to take her in to give daily medication. Species:dog Date of Birth:2022 (estimated) Can travel after:4 weeks Gender:female Neutered:yes Health Issues:Leishmania positive, no obvious symptoms Please read: Living with a pet with Leishmaniasis Medication:Allopurinol daily Weight:24 kg Height:56 cm Behaviour around dogs:Poppy can have a short fuse with other dogs when they are in a space together. Sometimes she is fine but if something stresses her she can get growly then lash out. She is a very people-orientated dog, so she is best suited to being the only dog. Behaviour around cats:She barks at the cats but we are not sure if she would chase or hurt them. Behaviour around kids:Should be good Could be the only animal:Yes Tags: available for adoption

About Poppy

What life with Poppy looks like

Poppy is a medium-sized adult mixed breed dog waiting at Laiza Strays in Greece.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇷Adopting from Greece

Greek shelters often partner with Northern European rescue groups for placements. Animals are sterilized, vaccinated, and chipped before adoption. Fees vary widely depending on whether the shelter is municipal or NGO-run.

Frequently asked

Adopting Poppy, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Poppy?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Laiza Strays handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Poppy on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Poppy if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Laiza Strays will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Poppy already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Poppy isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Laiza Strays early rather than rehoming privately; they know Poppy and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
