This is Puma, an impressive girl with a characteristic brown-black, shiny coat that displays the features of a Belgian Shepherd. Her sparkling eyes are full of intelligence and energy, immediately drawing the attention of anyone who meets her. As befits working-dog breeds, Puma is an energetic and strong dog whose temperament allows her to sometimes pull on the leash and show her strength and determination. She is confident, brave, and smart, which perfectly explains why she has such an original name. At the same time, she is a faithful, devoted companion in contact with people, free of any signs of aggression. This wonderful girl needs a lot of movement and activity to be happy. It requires a guardian who consistently and focusedly works with the dog and is willing to spend time on training and fun. Puma was trained at the shelter and knows all basic commands, runs at heel, and waits only for work commands. Puma gets along best with a person who understands her needs and offers her the right amount of physical and mental stimulation. The stress of the stay at the animal shelter has affected Puma’s health; she is losing weight... Due to her energetic nature, she needs space and freedom, which she cannot find in an animal shelter. Puma dreams of a home that gives her stability and love. If you adopt her, you will gain a truly devoted, devoted friend who returns your love with boundless loyalty and great joy every day. (TH Skaryszew 1 1/2024) Puma already has an EU-Pass and would be ready to travel immediately upon the next trip. Gets along with other dogs.

About PUMA

What life with PUMA looks like

PUMA is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Hundehilfe Polen in Dierkshausen.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting PUMA, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about PUMA?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Hundehilfe Polen handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw PUMA on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt PUMA if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Hundehilfe Polen will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is PUMA already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if PUMA isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Hundehilfe Polen early rather than rehoming privately; they know PUMA and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
