Tulevassa kodissa voisi hyvin olla seurana ystävällinen samaa kokoluokkaa oleva narttu, mutta Pumppis pärjää kyllä yksinäänkin, näin ainakin saa olla kaiken keskipisteenä. Pumppis rakastaa olla lähellä, työpöydän äärellä istuessa, herra ilmestyy viereen, nousee takajaloilleen ja nojailee istujan jalkoihin, samalla katsoen suoraan silmiin kuin kertoen että tässä mä olen, olisiko hetki aikaa rapsutuksille. Lähtee mielellään kävelylenkille, tassuttelee reippaasti eteenpäin, välillä palautuu taluttajan vierelle kävelemään. Toisille koirille voi haukkua mutta lopettaa kyllä käskettäessä ja jatkaa matkaansa. Ei vedä hihnassa, on toki kokonsa puolesta hyvin hallittavissa. Teini-ikään ehtineet lapset ovat Pumppiksen mielestä mukavia niiden kanssa voi hengailla sängyn päällä ja pummailla nameja tai ainakin vahtia jos jotain syötävää saattaisi tipahtaa. Kanapohjaiset ruuat ja herkut aiheuttavat Pumppikselle vatsaoireita joten näitä herkkuja ei ruokalistalta löydy. Yksinolo on vielä hiukan vaikeaa, Pumppis saattaa haukkua yksin ollessaan mutta tuhotöitä ei ole tehnyt. Tarvitsee harjoittelua yksinoloon, seurana sijaiskodissa on toisia koiria, mutta tämä ei ole auttanut haukkumiseen. Pumppiksella on ihmistä ikävä ja siihen ei karvaiset ystävät tuo helpotusta, ainakaan huomattavaa. Pumppikselle paras koti olisi aikuiskoti kenties jo eläkeikään ehtinyt omistaja/omistajat jotta yksinoloa ei juurikaan tulisi. Toki kauppareissujen ajan Pumppis pärjäilee vaikka hieman haukkuisikin, mutta työpäivien mittaiset ajat ovat jo liikaa herralle. Uuden kodin tulisi sijaita joko rivi-tai omakotitalossa rauhallisella asuinalueella, kerrostalo asumismuotona ei sovi haukkuherkkyyden takia. Omalla aidatulla pihalla Pumppis voisi nauttia kiireettömistä päivistä turvallisesti makoillen. Pumppis on sisäsiisti ja sijaiskodissa Pukkilassa jonne herraan pääsee sovitusti tutustumaan. Painoa Pumppiksella viime punnituksella oli 6,7kg.
