Rae

Female · Adult · 6 years

Rae is definitely one for the Shepherd lovers! She is a big people person and loves meeting new people, always asking for a fuss. She's an incredibly clever girl, and will do anything for a tasty treat. She does have some pain in her hips that she will need lifelong medication for, but she is happy and comfortable! Rae would prefer walks in quieter, less dog populated areas so she can get her full sniffs in without any crazy distractions. She is doing well in her ongoing training here in the centre including building her dog social skills and focus. Rae is really missing her home comforts and can't wait to have a cosy space to call her own. Meet gorgeous girl Rae, our 6-year old German Shepherd looking for her forever home. Rae is a super sweet girl, who is immediately friendly with new people and enjoys a fuss. Typical of her breed, she is very clever and loves to be kept busy and learn new things. She loves her food, which is a great aid in her training, and often spends time playing with her toys - particularly her tuggy toys! Rae would love a family who are willing to take her on fun adventures, and keep her brain stimulated with fun puzzle games. She would prefer to be the only dog in the home, as she does need a little bit of work on her social skills when out and about. Rae is able to go home with older secondary school aged children who are confident around bigger dogs as she can sometimes jump up when she is excited to see you.

About Rae

What life with Rae looks like

Rae is a large adult dog waiting at Dogs Trust Cardiff in Cardiff.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Rae, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Rae?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dogs Trust Cardiff handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Rae on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Rae if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dogs Trust Cardiff will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Rae already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Rae isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dogs Trust Cardiff early rather than rehoming privately; they know Rae and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
