Rafael

Beagle · Male · Adult · 6 years

Meet Rafael! Rafael is a lovely, friendly and affectionate boy, who is looking for a home where he can enjoy all the good things in life – walks, sniffing, treats and plenty of fuss! This handsome boy is a real gentleman who loves attention and will happily soak up all the fuss you are willing to give him. He does have a tendency to jump up when he wants attention, so his new family will need to continue working on his manners and help him learn that all four paws on the floor gets him the fuss he is looking for. Rafael absolutely loves using his nose and gets so much enjoyment from his sniff mats filled with hidden treats. Like any good hound, he enjoys having opportunities to follow his nose and investigate his surroundings. He also loves his long walks and is a pleasure to walk, with lovely lead manners. He enjoys getting out and about and would make a great companion for someone who appreciates an active hound. Rafael is looking for a home with Beagle/hound experience. His new family should understand the typical traits, quirks and needs that come with owning a hound and be prepared to give him plenty of appropriate outlets for his natural instincts. He is an affectionate, friendly boy with a lovely temperament and would thrive with people who enjoy spending time with their dog and can give him plenty of mental enrichment and exercise. If you are a Beagle/hound lover and are looking for a lovely gentleman to join your family, Rafael could be the boy for you. He will need a private secure hound proof garden. Rafael has interacted with other dogs whilst in our care, and can be a little nervous and unsure around some, and is more confident around a calmer dog. We do feel he could potentially live with another calm dog of similar size following a successful meet and greet. (must be neutered). No cats or small furries for Rafael.

About Rafael

What life with Rafael looks like

Rafael is a medium-sized adult beagle dog waiting at Manchester & Cheshire Dogs Home (Manchester) in Manchester.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Rafael, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Rafael?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Manchester & Cheshire Dogs Home (Manchester) handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Rafael on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Rafael if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Manchester & Cheshire Dogs Home (Manchester) will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Rafael already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Rafael isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Manchester & Cheshire Dogs Home (Manchester) early rather than rehoming privately; they know Rafael and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
