Adopt Ralph

Mixed Breed · Male · Senior · 10 years

Ralph was simply left behind. Ralph had an owner here on Aegina. For nine years, he was by his side every day, in sunshine and rain, in happy and difficult situations. Ralph would never have left his master. Loyalty is especially important for a dog. Unfortunately, not for everyone, because when Ralph's owner moved away from the island, he coldly left him to his fate. How must Ralph have felt? His whole world suddenly collapsed. But fortunately, Ralph did not lose his enthusiasm for life. He became cheerful again when he moved into the animal shelter of Animal Protection. Now we are looking for a new home for the wonderful Ralph and that for the rest of his life. Anyone who thinks that Ralph at the age of nine is already one of the retirees has not met him personally yet. He enjoys the variety and being with other dogs here. Ralph makes the best of his situation. But Ralph also has a special story: Before he was supposed to be neutered, it turned out that his little heart is not completely healthy - heart murmurs were detected. Since then, Ralph has been receiving medication that helps him live well with his situation. He feels comfortable and this particularity does not restrict him at all right now, but this support will be needed for his entire life. From a medical perspective, castration is advised against. What Ralph wishes for are people with heart - people who accept him as he is, who give him security and are ready to accompany him on his way. People who understand that love sometimes also means responsibility, and who show him how beautiful a dog's life can be. Ralph is not waiting for a perfect home - he is waiting for his home. The animals are described as they behave in the animal shelter or in the foster home. This behavior is not shown immediately upon arrival. Some react initially with fear to the new situation. Animals from the animal protection have all had a past, which was often not nice or even cruel. This past cannot be shaken off overnight. They need time to be allowed to arrive and to gain trust. Please have patience and give your animal the necessary time!

About Ralph

What life with Ralph looks like

Ralph is a medium-sized senior mixed breed dog waiting at Aegean Dogs e.V. / FAZA Aegina in Berlin.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Ralph, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Ralph?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Aegean Dogs e.V. / FAZA Aegina handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Ralph on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Ralph if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Aegean Dogs e.V. / FAZA Aegina will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Ralph already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Ralph isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Aegean Dogs e.V. / FAZA Aegina early rather than rehoming privately; they know Ralph and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
