Adopt Rasmus

Mixed Breed · Male

Rasmus has succeeded and was rehomed to Leipzig on 03.10.16 as Gogo's new roommate... We are very happy for the two cat friends. Even though Rasmus, now named Finn, initially found it a bit uncomfortable when he had to move into the cat box. We are sure that with this cat friend he will soon show his affectionate side, because he has it! ……………………………………………………………………………………………………………. My name is Rasmus. I am male, neutered, and born around 2010. I have been waiting for a new home since 2011. This is what my caregivers say about me: Rasmus is a stray cat who was picked up in the forest. Initially quite manageable, it has become clear that he distrusts people and one must earn his affection with patience. He is curious but always cautious and should be further trained with hand-feeding. Experience is an advantage here, cat experts know that you have to plan for a lot of time.

About Rasmus

What life with Rasmus looks like

Rasmus is a medium-sized adult mixed breed cat waiting at Tierheim Schkortitz in Grimma.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Rasmus, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Rasmus?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Schkortitz handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Rasmus on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Rasmus if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Schkortitz will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Rasmus already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Rasmus isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Schkortitz early rather than rehoming privately; they know Rasmus and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
