Raul

Male · Young · 3 years

People-friendly Bracken-Greyhound mix seeking a home The people-friendly Raul was born in June 2013 and has a shoulder height of about 65 cm. Raul originally comes from our Hungarian partner animal shelter, where he spent 3 years with his brother after the death of their owner. His brother Kenzoo quickly found a lovely home. Raul has been waiting for his own family for 2 years. He is very undemanding. Raul is really very cuddly and absolutely child-friendly. The big guy can stay alone at home for a few hours without any problems in his foster home. There, he shows himself to be very balanced and relaxed. He is used to car rides. Unfortunately, it's a different story outside the property. Raul seems overwhelmed by everything. He looks forward to walks, but he is tense and in hunting mode throughout the walk. He moves restlessly back and forth, pulls on the leash, focuses on his surroundings, barks, and spins around whenever he sees other dogs or cats. Here, one needs enough strength to hold him. Unfortunately, he is not at all compatible with unfamiliar dogs, and there should be no small animals in his new home. Birds and large animals, on the other hand, seem uninteresting to him. When he goes on vacation with us and our other 9 dogs in the countryside in Hungary, Raul really blossoms. There, we usually don't encounter other dogs, people, or cats. He feels comfortable there, and you can take him on long daily walks. In his foster home, he now lives problem-free in a dog group (9 dogs of various ages and sizes). However, this took several weeks and a lot of experience. For Raul, we are looking for dog-experienced people who can offer the big guy a warm place, lots of cuddles, and a large garden. He loves to dig. Therefore, either a corner in the garden where he can dig for mice or a nearby secluded meadow where he can follow his digging needs and occupy himself would be ideal. Short walks in quiet places where there are no people or dogs to distract him would be great, but they are not absolutely necessary. Being with his humans would also be enough for him. Ideally, a large yard or house with a garden far from neighbors with other dogs. This way, he would walk more relaxed on the leash. Older children (from about 10 years) are welcome in the new family. The impressive fellow would make a good yard dog, but only with family contact. He wants to live in the house. NO KENNEL, OUTDOOR-ONLY, OR CHAIN KEEPING. If he has enough space to move around, walks could be dispensed with in his special case. Raul is vaccinated, microchipped, dewormed, neutered, and has a blood test for Mediterranean diseases, as well as a brief info: Name Raul Gender male dog Color black Age June 2013

DE·Show original

About Raul

What life with Raul looks like

Raul is a large young adult dog waiting at animals care - Tierschutz ohne Grenzen in Ketzin.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Raul, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Raul?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. animals care - Tierschutz ohne Grenzen handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Raul on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Raul if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — animals care - Tierschutz ohne Grenzen will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Raul already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Raul isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with animals care - Tierschutz ohne Grenzen early rather than rehoming privately; they know Raul and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
