Adopt Rita

Mixed Breed · Female · Puppy · 4 months

This poor little mouse is our Rita, who was rescued from a breeder in a desolate state with the help of a "ticket out of hell" and has now arrived at our intake station. She was used as a breeding dog (though she has nothing to do with serious breeding, as the dogs are simply used to generate puppies). These dogs do not know a normal dog life; they are kept as "ware" dogs and are only given the bare minimum affection needed to be used in the miserable business of dog breeding. Now, Rita should leave all of that behind and be on her way to a beautiful new life. We wish for Rita a family that has no expectations of her, because we simply do not know what she can do in everyday life and what she still has to learn. Often, it is a great help for the dogs if there is already a confident dog in the new home who can show her everything. If you have a few requirements, a lot of time, patience, and a big heart for Rita, then contact us, because she could soon be fully vaccinated, microchipped, neutered, and tested for Mediterranean diseases and travel to Germany. If picking her up in Northbay is no problem for you, we look forward to your substantive inquiry. About Rita

What life with Rita looks like

Rita is a large puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Franz von Assisi Hundenothilfe e.V. (Hunde ohne Lobby) in Vilseck.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Rita, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Rita?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Franz von Assisi Hundenothilfe e.V. (Hunde ohne Lobby) handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Rita on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Rita if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Franz von Assisi Hundenothilfe e.V. (Hunde ohne Lobby) will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Rita already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Rita isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Franz von Assisi Hundenothilfe e.V. (Hunde ohne Lobby) early rather than rehoming privately; they know Rita and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
