Sydney

SYDNEY West Midlands Adoption Fee: £350 Female Tweenie Dachshund (8kg) Age: 3.5 years old Colour: Red, smooth coat Neutered Sydney is a loving, affectionate and clever little girl who adores cuddles and being close to her people. She enjoys walks, exploring outdoors and chasing squirrels. She is also very food-motivated, which is a great help with training, but is just as happy snuggling up beneath her blankets at home. Sydney has a history of IVDD, with suspected episodes affecting her thoracic spine in March 2025 and lumbar spine in September 2026. She recovered well from her first episode without surgery but is currently recovering from her latest flare-up with medication, rest and short lead walks. She will need an adopter who understands her condition and can manage her ongoing veterinary care. She also has a sensitive stomach, which is managed with a suitable diet and supplements. Sydney struggles with separation anxiety and can currently manage only around 5–10 minutes alone outside the home. Despite extensive training and medication, her progress has been affected by her recent back problems. She needs a home where someone is around most of the time and an adopter willing to continue her training with support from The Red Foundation’s behaviourists. She is very friendly with people and has been wonderful with children of all ages, including babies. She may initially bark when visitors enter her space but soon warms up with affection. Sydney can be reactive towards dogs on the lead but is generally excellent with other dogs off lead and has very good recall. She would happily live with another dog, provided they are not overly energetic, however, definitely no cats. Sydney is an intelligent girl who knows lots of commands and has previously settled well with friends, family and dog sitters. She loves adventures when her back allows, lazy mornings, tummy rubs and playing with her dog friends. Sydney is looking for a loving home where she will have plenty of companionship, patience and understanding. Her ideal adopter will be home most of the time, committed to managing her IVDD and willing to continue working on her separation anxiety. In return, she will make a wonderfully devoted companion. REQUIREMENTS IN A HOME: Can live with children of any age Would ideally live with a calm dog Someone who is home most of the time Cannot live with cats For more information, please email

About Sydney

What life with Sydney looks like

Sydney is an adult dog waiting at The Red Foundation in Pentlow Street.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Sydney, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Sydney?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. The Red Foundation handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Sydney on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Sydney if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — The Red Foundation will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Sydney already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Sydney isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with The Red Foundation early rather than rehoming privately; they know Sydney and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
