ROCKY

Female · Adult · 4 years

ROCKY is a 4-year-old female Anatolian Shepherd who was found wandering and unfortunately never claimed, so we know nothing about her past. Upon arrival at the shelter, ROCKY had large wounds on her ears, which are currently being treated. Unfortunately, her condition suggests she may not have had a very happy past, although we will never really know what she may have experienced. ROCKY is now a completely terrified dog. She is afraid of many things and the slightest change can be a source of anxiety for her. Volunteers must therefore show a lot of gentleness, patience and understanding to allow her to gradually regain confidence in humans and her environment. Despite this great timidity, ROCKY is gentle, pleasant and affectionate when she starts to feel confident. It will simply take her the necessary time to open up at her own pace. For the moment, ROCKY does not show particular reactivity towards other dogs or cats. However, her behavior may evolve as she gains confidence and discovers her new environment. Due to her great timidity and emotional fragility, we will not place her in a home with children. The ideal for her would be a house with a perfectly enclosed garden, in a calm and secure environment, with patient and caring people. ROCKY will need a real socialization process, always done gradually and without ever rushing her. She will need to learn that the world around her is no longer a source of danger and that she can finally trust her human. ROCKY certainly did not have the life she deserved until now. Today, she is just waiting for someone who will see beyond her fear and offer her the time, security and love she needs so much.

About ROCKY

What life with ROCKY looks like

ROCKY is a adult dog waiting at SPA Colmar in France.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇫🇷Adopting from France

French refuges follow the SPA framework: adopters sign a cession contract that includes sterilization, vaccinations, microchip identification, and rabies passport. Fees are typically €150–€300. Many refuges work with rescue transport partners for cross-border placements.

Frequently asked

Adopting ROCKY, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about ROCKY?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. SPA Colmar handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw ROCKY on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt ROCKY if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — SPA Colmar will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is ROCKY already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if ROCKY isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with SPA Colmar early rather than rehoming privately; they know ROCKY and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (FR). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
