over: 🍀 Other dogs: only by sympathy Other animals: no cats, geese and chickens are accepted Children: no dog experience: dog experience required Problems: unsure, goes then also, needs security Specials: wants to please the human, knows muzzles Hello Shepherds! My name is Rocky. The first 2 years of my life I lived in a family that unfortunately didn't teach me anything about the big wide world. This lack of experience now haunts me and that's why I'm looking for someone who has a lot of dog experience and of course takes me to school. Leash training and impulse control now mean something to me. I learn incredibly fast and very willingly! Small obedience exercises I can already do. I respect prohibitions very quickly, you just have to tell me! I am desperately looking for an experienced person who takes me in and sees the great, hard-working dog in me who still has a lot to learn and must. Only then will I recognize my pack leader! Sniffing work would be my passion. I have one dog friend and there it was determined that I can be totally social and relaxed with another dog. No food envy, nothing. I just need the opportunity to get to know the dog buddies, because I am unfortunately very insecure in this regard. I was not socialized and behave very rudely and need to work on a relaxed dog contact very urgently. For this reason, I can really only be given to very experienced, loving hands that deal with me with reason and not with pressure. If I get pressure, I explode and unfortunately have already caused injuries. At home, I am very cuddly and a chill but watchful type. A family with children is not suitable for me, neither are big children. Cats make no sense in my environment unfortunately. Geese and chickens, on the other hand, I find cool and tend to ignore them. I love driving and driving very well! I find that really cool 😉 I'm looking forward to meeting you! Of course, I am house-trained, microchipped, vaccinated, and groomed. Love, Greetings, Rocky Do you think we would be a good match? Then please send an email and tell me something about yourselves and why you believe you are the right ones for me. Maybe we can meet each other in person soon. This animal must be handled with a muzzle.

About Rocky

What life with Rocky looks like

Rocky is a large adult german shepherd dog waiting at Tierheim Stuttgart in Stuttgart.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Note from the shelter: Requires experienced handler, socialization training needed, can be reactive under pressure, needs gradual introduction to other dogs

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Rocky, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Rocky?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Stuttgart handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Rocky on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Rocky if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Stuttgart will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Rocky already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Rocky isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Stuttgart early rather than rehoming privately; they know Rocky and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
