Rocky

Male · Young · 2 years

ROCKY South Yorkshire Adoption fee is £450 Just over 2 years old Black and tan smooth mini Male (not neutered) Meet Rocky, a sweet little black and tan dachshund who is looking for a fresh start and a family to call his own. Rocky’s early life has sadly not been what any dog deserves. He was living outside in a filthy kennel, in conditions that broke our hearts. Thankfully, he is now safe in our kennels near Rotherham, where he is warm, comfortable, regularly fed and receiving plenty of love and attention from the kennel staff. Rocky is a cuddly little boy who enjoys sitting on someone’s knee and having a fuss. He is a little more nervous than Bruce, the other dachshund rescued alongside him, and will need a family who understands that he may take time to build confidence and settle into his new surroundings. This doesn’t mean he doesn’t love fun and games running around the paddock with his new dachshund friends though! We know very little about Rocky’s previous life or what training he may have received. His new family will need to be patient and prepared to go right back to basics, potentially treating him much like a puppy as he learns about life as a loved family pet. Gentle encouragement, consistency and lots of kindness will be key to helping him flourish. Rocky has been vet-checked and is in good health, although he is currently a little underweight. We feel Rocky would be happiest as an only dog or potentially living with one or two confident resident dogs. He is not bonded to Bruce, so they will be rehomed separately. Rocky is not yet neutered. The Red Foundation will cover the cost of his neutering in due course, and this will be a condition of adoption. Potential adopters must be willing to travel to Sandy Kennels, near Rotherham, to meet Rocky before adoption. Requirements in a home for Rocky Could live with a friendly dog subject to a successful meet Could live with sensible teenagers Someone around much of the time, we don’t know how he feels about being left Not cat-tested If you think you could offer Rocky his forever home, please get in touch with Kate at .

About Rocky

What life with Rocky looks like

Rocky is a young adult dog waiting at The Red Foundation in Pentlow Street.

A young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Rocky, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Rocky?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. The Red Foundation handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Rocky on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Rocky if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — The Red Foundation will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Rocky already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Rocky isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with The Red Foundation early rather than rehoming privately; they know Rocky and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
