Slinky & Hugo

SLINKY & HUGO Yeovil, Somerset Adoption fee is £850 SLINKY 3 years old Chocolate and tan smooth coat mini Not neutered HUGO 3 years old Chocolate and tan smooth coat mini Not neutered Slinky and Hugo are a pair of loving brothers who are looking for a new home due to a change in their owner’s circumstances which means they are left on their own for too long. They are young, healthy dogs who need a home where they can be given the training and attention they need. They are an intelligent and sensitive pair who will soak up positive approaches and blossom into truly devoted dogs. Both dogs travel well in the car, and love their outside adventures. They need to learn how to walk nicely on the lead and will bark in excitement at strange dogs, but are young and smart enough to be able to take this in their stride. The Red Foundation will provide behaviourist support, if this is needed, and we feel that a family with experience of dachshunds and their quirks would be an excellent fit for them both. Inside the home, they live with another family dog, so could live with another dog, subject to a successful meet. They enjoy cuddles on the sofa and are typically loving and affectionate dogs. They like to be at the heart of the home and need a family where someone will be around much of the time, although once settled they can be left for a few hours. Slinky and Hugo have lived happily with older children so would be suitable for a home with sensible children aged 10+. The boys are both in good health and currently sleep in the kitchen. Their new family will need to put some time and effort into house-training as currently they are hit and miss with their toileting, so probably hard-flooring downstairs would be a bonus! This pair of brothers would be a wonderful addition to a family who are able to spend a good amount of time with them, sharing walks and adventures and making the most of the energy and fun they will bring to a home. Requirements in a home for Slinky & Hugo: Could potentially live with sensible children aged 10+ No cats (not cat tested) Could possibly live with another dog, subject to a successful meet A private garden To find out more about Frankie, please contact Jen at

About Slinky & Hugo

What life with Slinky & Hugo looks like

Slinky & Hugo is a young adult dachshund dog waiting at The Red Foundation in Pentlow Street.

A young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Slinky & Hugo, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Slinky & Hugo?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. The Red Foundation handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Slinky & Hugo on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Slinky & Hugo if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — The Red Foundation will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Slinky & Hugo already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Slinky & Hugo isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with The Red Foundation early rather than rehoming privately; they know Slinky & Hugo and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
