Roo

Mixed Breed · Female · Young · 1 year

Roo was born in Romania. We don't have much information on her other than she found herself in a public shelter run by PawPrints to Freedom which is how we came to know if her. She is just the sweetest and most gentle soul that you could ever want to meet. She's very shy with new people but she has so much love to give, she's just going to need someone to let her take things at her own pace and not rush her. Roo is an extremely submissive girl. She will have seen and experienced a lot of bad things during her time in Romania but despite all this, she is trying her absolute hardest to put her past behind her and learn to trust us all at Oakwood. We're so proud of how well she's doing and we're all absolutely smitten with her <3 Roo has shown to be friendly with other dogs but she does get worried by them if they are too much. She prefers calmer dogs that can read her body language and that she can have a gentle play with rather than being roughed around and jumped all over. Roo is still new into the rescue and so we've not cat tested her as of yet. So far Roo is showing to have moderate energy levels, she is still very shy and learning to trust so this could increase over time Roo has never been completely alone before nor has she ever lived in a home so any time alone will need to be slowly built up over time. If she's adopted with another dog, we believe that she'll be fine to be left up to 4-5 hours Roo does not yet walk on a collar and lead Roo has no form of basic training

About Roo

What life with Roo looks like

Roo is a young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Oakwood Dog Rescue in Kingston upon Hull.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Roo, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Roo?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Oakwood Dog Rescue handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Roo on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Roo if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Oakwood Dog Rescue will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Roo already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Roo isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Oakwood Dog Rescue early rather than rehoming privately; they know Roo and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
