Rousey

Staffordshire Bull Terrier · Male · Adult · 4 years

Rousey is our 3 year old Staffordshire Bull Terrier crossbreed looking for a very special family to build a home with. Rousey is a gentle and shy soul, not experiencing very much in his life before coming into our care and is therefore looking for a home that can gradually build his confidence with the big wide world. Rousey loves his toys, especially squeaky ones and his personality has shines when he is playing with other dogs! He has slowly built relationships with his handlers here at the centre, learning to trust them and warming up overtime. So adopters that don't mind taking his rehoming process at his pace would be wonderful for him. Rousey is looking for a patient, quiet home where he can adjust at his own pace and continue to grow in confidence. He would like access to a private, secure garden as he won't cope with going for walks until he is more confident. Rousey would benefit from a home with an existing dog to show him the ropes and help him navigate his transition into the home. As he has done so previously, Rousey could potentially share his home with cats after careful integration and could live with small pets if kept seperate. Any children in the home should be from upper secondary ages, being calm and mindful of his nervous nature. Rousey would like for someone to around most of the time to begin with, guiding him as he settles in. Please note that it will take some time to build a relationship with Rousey so he will require multiple meets quite consecutively, so adopters that have the flexibility and availability to do appointments within quick succession would be needed to give Rousey the best chance of being ready to go home.

About Rousey

What life with Rousey looks like

Rousey is a large adult staffordshire bull terrier dog waiting at Dogs Trust Manchester in Manchester.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Rousey, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Rousey?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dogs Trust Manchester handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Rousey on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Rousey if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dogs Trust Manchester will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Rousey already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Rousey isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dogs Trust Manchester early rather than rehoming privately; they know Rousey and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
