Adopt Rut

Female · Senior · 10 years

Native Country: Hungary No one knows how long the female dog Rut was already on her own by the summer of 2020. She was sighted repeatedly on the streets around Kecskemét at various locations until it was finally possible to bring her into the care of the animal shelter. At the Menhely caretakers, Rut gradually gained trust. Week by week, she began to enjoy cuddles and affection more. She is gentle, friendly, and always tries to do everything right. At first, Rut had a hard time with other dogs and clearly showed that she preferred to keep a distance. To improve her chances of being placed, she now lives with an experienced dog trainer in Hungary. There, she is making great progress: Now she even plays with her fellow animals and is much more open; however, she is certainly not for beginner dog owners. Rut loves people, big or small, from the heart. At first, she wished for a home as a single princess, but now it depends on the right environment and the experience of the owners whether she could also have a four-legged companion. She wants to learn, is attentive, and always orientates herself to her person. During walks, she runs nicely on the leash, remains friendly and reserved, and is not easily unsettled by unfamiliar sounds if her companion gives her security. Rut has so much deserved a home of her own. Her future owners should be dog-experienced, consistently and lovingly lead her, give her space, and further develop her. Who gives this special female dog the chance to show how amazing she is? June 22, 2025, an animal caretaker writes: "Rut is in perfect health, has a good appetite, and feels well all around. We take many walks, during which she often rolls on the ground in front of me to be stroked. She is very trusting, even friendly towards strangers. During walks, she approaches people openly and jumps joyfully around when there is mutual affection. She has also embraced children very much, and she is affectionate with them. One must only pay a little attention to the fact that she might jump at them out of sheer joy. She quickly forms a close bond with people." Since Rut is a staff mix, you should check with your local community about their owner requirements if you are interested in her. Many thanks to dear Susann Kaiser for taking over the sponsorship of Rut!

About Rut

What life with Rut looks like

Rut is a large senior dog waiting at Animal Happyend in Animal Happyend.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇨🇭Adopting from Switzerland

Swiss shelters require a home visit (Platzkontrolle) and proof of suitable accommodation. Cantons each have their own additional dog-keeping requirements (e.g. SKN training in some areas). Animals leave sterilized and chipped.

Frequently asked

Adopting Rut, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Rut?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Animal Happyend handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Rut on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Rut if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Animal Happyend will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Rut already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Rut isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Animal Happyend early rather than rehoming privately; they know Rut and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
