Adopt Ruth

File No.: w-korfu-ruth-f-1121 Update October 2025: Ruth seems a bit conflicted in her emotional world, either "don't touch me" or "I'd really like more cuddles now :-)" Ruth just needs time to blossom - we're sure there are the right people out there, and they will find each other eventually! Update July 2025: Another year has passed - what a sad anniversary. Ruth is now about 4 years old and has been waiting for HER humans since she was a puppy. She's already doing quite well walking on a leash during walks with Dorly (see video)! Update July 2024: Ruth now lives in a large free-run area between the enclosures, which clearly suits her - she's generally much more relaxed. Every day, she decides anew whether she trusts us or not - sometimes she wants to be petted, and sometimes just being looked at is fine. We are convinced that in a different environment, she would continue to grow and finally let go of her skepticism! Who will give her the chance she so desperately needs? Update March 2024: Unfortunately, Ruth is still rather shy around people - she simply hasn't had much experience. We would be very happy if patient, loving people showed interest in our beauty! Update June 2022: Ruth is currently about 51cm tall and weighs 22kg. She's packed her bags and is ready to be discovered! Update End of January 2022: Ruth is still waiting for her family - it's always very sad when young dogs have to grow up in an animal shelter and not in a loving family :(. Currently, Ruth is about 40cm tall and weighs around 16kg. She shares a run with other dogs of both sexes. November 2021: Ralf & Ruth are likely siblings. They were found together with a third puppy (who has already found a home) near the trash in Acharavi. For their own safety, we took the two into the animal shelter and are now looking for loving adopters for the puppies. They are playful and friendly, as puppies typically are.

About Ruth

What life with Ruth looks like

Ruth is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierhilfe Korfu e.V. in Ratingen.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Ruth, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Ruth?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierhilfe Korfu e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Ruth on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Ruth if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierhilfe Korfu e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Ruth already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Ruth isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierhilfe Korfu e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Ruth and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
