Deze knappe jonge kater, geboren in november 2024, verblijft momenteel bij onze redster Anka in Brașov, Roemenië. Salem heeft een verdrietige start gehad. Hij werd geboren in een kleine buitenkooi en bracht het eerste jaar van zijn leven daar door, zonder ooit vrij rond te kunnen lopen of de wereld te ontdekken. Pas na ingrijpen van de politie kon hij worden gered. Ondanks alles wat hij heeft gemist, is hij zijn vertrouwen in mensen nooit verloren. Integendeel: mensen zijn het allerbelangrijkste in zijn leven. Salem is ontzettend aanhankelijk en zoekt voortdurend het gezelschap van zijn mensen. Of je nu op de bank zit, aan het werk bent of naar bed gaat, Salem is het liefst dichtbij. Hij kruipt graag op schoot, geeft kopjes en vindt dat er eigenlijk nooit genoeg geknuffeld kan worden. Met andere katten en honden kan Salem samenleven, maar doordat hij als kitten nauwelijks sociale vaardigheden heeft kunnen ontwikkelen, begrijpt hij hun lichaamstaal niet altijd even goed. Soms zoekt hij enthousiast contact, om vervolgens ineens weer zijn eigen plan te trekken. Daarom denken we dat Salem zowel als enige kat als bij een sociaal en tolerant huisdier gelukkig kan worden. Omdat Salem nooit heeft geleerd hoe hij zich veilig buiten kan bewegen, zoeken we voor hem een binnenhuis, zoals een appartement met een goed beveiligd balkon of een huis met een volledig katveilige, afgesloten tuin. Zodra iets zijn aandacht trekt, kan hij namelijk zomaar vergeten waar hij vandaan kwam. Salem is dol op natvoer en laat luid en duidelijk weten wanneer hij vindt dat het etenstijd is. Zijn grappige karakter en eindeloze behoefte aan aandacht maken hem tot een unieke huisgenoot. We plaatsen hem het liefst bij wat oudere kinderen die zijn enthousiaste en soms wat eigenzinnige karakter begrijpen.
