Sammy

German Shepherd · Male · Adult · 5 years

I am Sammy … a young German Shepherd male dog: quick in mind, quick in body – and currently still quite hyper. I need people who can give me structure and properly guide me. Then I will be a really great companion. Would you like to know more about me? I am a handsome and strong representative of my breed – athletic, fit, attentive, and with a lot of fun in work and movement. I am strongly object-fixated (ball/toy/stick) and can excel in that area. My frustration tolerance is still very low, so I need clear rules, well-established routines, and training with a plan. With the right person, I will be the world's best Sammy! I am young and have a lot of potential. Stimulation is a must – for both my mind and body. As an athletic dog, I am suitable for suitable dog sports, if impulse control and calmness are also trained. I am happy to learn, but need consistent, fair guidance and ideally the company of a dog trainer or people with solid knowledge. I wish for … dog-experienced, stable people without small children (optional from about 14 years old) and without cats. A home on the green outskirts of the city or in the countryside would be ideal. Due to my size, I am looking for a ground-floor home where I do not have to climb stairs. If you give me structure, training, and appropriate mental stimulation, I will be a reliable partner who really brings joy. Will we perhaps become the very best team?

About Sammy

What life with Sammy looks like

Sammy is a large adult german shepherd dog waiting at Tierheim Berlin Falkenberg in Berlin.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Note from the shelter: Needs ground-floor home due to size, requires extensive mental and physical exercise, low frustration tolerance

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Sammy, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Sammy?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Berlin Falkenberg handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Sammy on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Sammy if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Berlin Falkenberg will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Sammy already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Sammy isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Berlin Falkenberg early rather than rehoming privately; they know Sammy and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
