adoption requirements adoption process Now adopt this animal! adoption requirements adoption process Now adopt this dog! Samuel has found a home! His story: Samuel is an impressive young male dog with a shoulder height of about 70 cm and a particularly gentle nature. Behind his imposing appearance lies a dog who greatly enjoys the company of humans and seeks their proximity. Often, Samuel waits patiently in the enclosure, hoping someone will come to him. As soon as a person approaches, he runs up joyfully. His endearing gesture is especially touching: he constantly lifts his paw as if asking for attention. For Samuel, there is hardly anything more beautiful than being with humans and being stroked. Samuel was found in front of a kindergarten. There, he stood sadly and apparently sought connection. Unfortunately, people were afraid of the large dog and chased him away because they saw him as a danger to the children. Thus, Samuel eventually came to the shelter. Visually, Samuel strongly resembles a Kangal mix and thus a herding dog. These dogs are usually very large, intelligent, independent, and often make their own decisions. Originally, they were bred to independently watch and protect flocks. Therefore, they often exhibit a strong sense of responsibility, vigilance, and a certain independence. At the same time, they usually form a very close bond with their trusted people. For Samuel, we wish to find people who have experience with herding dogs or are willing to familiarize themselves with their special characteristics. An ideal home would be one with a securely fenced yard in a more rural setting, so that Samuel has enough space and clear structures. A chaotic daily routine, constant visitors, or taking him to the office would generally not be suitable for a dog of this type. With patience, understanding, and consistent, fair leadership, Samuel can develop into a loyal and reliable companion. Samuel's compatibility with other dogs has not yet been tested, but he was originally found with a group of other dogs. We do not know if he knows cats. His future family should be aware that Samuel likely does not know what life in a home is like. Things like house training, leash walking, or being left alone must be learned by him. As he is still a young dog, he is probably currently in or about to enter puberty. During this time, dogs often test their limits and need people who can provide them with security through patience, calmness, and loving consistency. Positive dog training classes could also be a support. Samuel is neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, and flea treated, and brings his EU pet passport. Who will give this big, loving boy a home? Many thanks to his namesake, Stephanie S. You gave Samuel his name. A big thank you also goes to Torsten W., who has taken on a monthly sponsorship for Samuel. Status: 14.03.

Vermittlungsvoraussetzungen Vermittlungsablauf Jetzt dieses Tier anfragen! Vermittlungsvoraussetzungen Vermittlungsablauf Jetzt diesen Hund anfragen! So kam Samuel schließlich ins Shelter. About Samuel

What life with Samuel looks like

Samuel is a extra-large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Samuel, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Samuel?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Samuel on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Samuel if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Samuel already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Samuel isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Samuel and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
