adoption requirements adoption process Now request this animal! adoption requirements adoption process Santiago has found a home! His story: His name is Santiago, but everyone calls him Tiago. He came to Germany as a little puppy and unfortunately didn't have an easy start in life. His current home is perfect – but unfortunately, he has to move again due to an illness. Tiago has quickly adapted to his master and shows a lot of trust towards him. This is particularly important because Tiago is still unsure outside. He needs a calm, relaxed primary caregiver who gives him security and gently leads him by the hand. Santiago is now about 2 years old and approximately 54 cm and 25 kg. When meeting other dogs, Tiago still shows stress, but if he knows a dog, he likes to play and also walks side by side with him. Tiago is a big cuddler and shows his affection sometimes a bit extravagantly – that's why it would be ideal to have older children in the family who can accept his tenderness well. A confident dog person who rehomes Tiago and shows him that he can meet dogs and people in a relaxed manner would be a great support for him. Would you like to meet Tiago and help him become a relaxed dog outside as well? Imagine how nice it would be to be active in the countryside with a garden, lead Tiago on a leash, and enjoy nature – Tiago is looking forward to a loving family that gives him security. If you are in love with Santiago and want to offer him an appropriate dog life, then contact us! After being neutered, he is not. Many thanks, dear Silvie, for giving the little fighter Santiago his name. As of: 10.06. This animal is vaccinated. This animal is microchipped.

Stand: 10.06.2025

About Santiago

What life with Santiago looks like

Santiago is a large young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Santiago, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Santiago?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Santiago on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Santiago if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Santiago already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Santiago isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Santiago and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
