Saoirse

Whippet Β· Female Β· Senior Β· 11 years

Sweet Saoirse is an affectionate lady who is looking for a quieter home where she can truly relax and enjoy her golden years. Saoirse was a very nervous girl when she came to us, but has already made huge achievements in such a short space of time and is currently living with one of our foster carers. She can be a bit worried in novel environments and by loud noises but has amazed and surprised us every day with her growing confidence. Saoirse is very much a people's dog and has quickly built bonds with her handlers. She will look to these people when in a situation that worries her or when she is looking for a cuddle and attention. She absolutely loves fuss and makes sure to tell you if you have stopped too early with a swift paw on the hand. She has made good progress with her dog interactions and has enjoyed sniffy walks alongside some calmer four-legged friends. The more time she is given to settle and feel safe, the more her beautiful character and quirks shine through. A home that has the time and patience to allow her to grow in confidence and help her feel safe will have an incredibly loving, affectionate and goofy companion in return! Meet Saoirse, a very sweet golden oldie at the age of 11 years old. Saoirse is working on building her overall confidence and confidence around other dogs. For this reason, she will currently need to be the only dog in the home, but she would be happy to have calm walking buddies. Her ideal home would be in a quieter area, as she can be worried by loud noises. She could live with dog-savvy older primary-aged children and older, who will understand that she may need some space or quiet time, and once Saoirse has settled, she could have visitors introduced gradually. She could also live with small furries, birds or livestock if kept separate. Saoirse is an older girl, and her future home should understand the potential for additional needs as she gets older.

About Saoirse

What life with Saoirse looks like

Saoirse is an extra-large senior whippet dog waiting at Dogs Trust Harefield in Harefield.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Saoirse, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Saoirse?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dogs Trust Harefield handles screening and the adoption contract directly β€” TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Saoirse on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Saoirse if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad β€” Dogs Trust Harefield will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Saoirse already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported β€” ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Saoirse isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work β€” that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dogs Trust Harefield early rather than rehoming privately; they know Saoirse and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect β€” names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
