In the shelter in the Netherlands Update 08-03-2026: 4 new photos added Update 2-1-2026 2 new photos and a video added Saul has already been with his foster family for a while and they have the following to tell about him: This charming Podenco Saul is a wonderful dog with big ears and a personality. He is cautious, adventurous, very unsure but curious and loves the good life. He behaves a bit like "King Julian" from the movie Madagascar: he feels like the boss, but has little to offer. He involves himself in everything. He prefers to lie on a high spot with a view and with some blankets and a pillow. And you can bring the food to him. Saul is a bit selective with strangers, but if he likes you, he will wag his tail and tell/ babble whole stories. With young children under 10 years old he is reserved, he finds them very exciting. Saul is a true Podenco in heart and soul. Very smart, listens when it suits him. Has a hunting instinct, but not very big. He loves to search for small animals among the leaves and bushes. And indoors he prefers to be very close to you. Whether it's on the bed or the couch, it doesn't matter to him. As long as he can lie against you. And he really enjoys walks in the forest. Attention, that's what he wants. Saul is still very unsure in many things. Also towards other dogs and needs a leader/dog to help him with that. Here he lives with two other dogs and it goes very well. Here Saul is sometimes alone at home and that goes very well. Even if he is left alone completely, he remains calm. But Saul definitely needs interaction with other dogs. So Saul is looking for a five-star hotel with a nice luxurious bed, where he would prefer to lie together. Going on walks, going on adventures with lots of cuddles and attention. Because he deserves that! Update 15-12-2025 Saul is now staying with a foster family with two other dogs and it's going really well with him. Saul turns out to be a real teddy bear and loves people. Saul has 5 new photos. 8-11-2025 Saul is a friendly, sensitive Podenco Canario with beautiful golden eyes and a gentle character. He lived for a long time with an older female podenco dog, with whom he had a close bond. After she moved away, his current owner noticed that he wasn't doing so well without a dog companion. It's clear that Saul likes to live with another dog and gets a lot of support and pleasure from it. At home, Saul is affectionate and seeks contact with his people. With the cats in the house it's mixed: sometimes he lies quietly next to them, sometimes he is too rough or jealous. Therefore, we prefer to place him in a home without cats, or where they can handle them very carefully. A stable dog-friendly companion would bring him a lot of calm and balance. During walks, Saul sometimes shows uncertainty. He can act out towards large dogs out of fear. With clear guidance, structure and a self-confident dog beside him, he will certainly be able to grow. He continues to walk happily, but sometimes pulls because he is very enthusiastic and would rather run freely. Saul likes to play, is smart, learns quickly and clearly enjoys attention and interaction. He is healthy, can live with children and other dogs, and can be left alone at home. Driving is good as long as he can lie down or sit somewhere, otherwise he gets sick. A garden is desired for him. Saul is looking for a quiet, warm home where he can develop again into the relaxed, happy dog he is by nature. A place where a kind dog is already present would be perfect for him.

In de opvang in Nederland Update 08-03-2026: 4 nieuwe foto's toegevoegd Update 2-1-2026 2 nieuwe foto's en een video toegevoegd Saul is inmiddels al even bij zijn opvanggezin en zij hadden het volgende over hem te vertellen: Deze charmante Podenco Saul is een prachtige hond met een grote oren en persoonlijkheid. Hij is voorzichtig avontuurlijk, erg onzeker maar nieuwsgierig en houdt van het goede leven ? Hij gedraagd zich een beetje als "King Julian" van de film Madagascar: hij voelt zich de baas, maar heeft weinig in te brengen. Bemoeit zich met alles. Hij ligt het liefst op een hoge plek met uitzicht en met wat dekens en een kussen. En het eten mag je naar hem toe brengen. Saul is een beetje selectief met vreemde, maar als hij je leuk vindt, kwispelt hij je omver en verteld/ brabbelt hij hele verhalen. Met kleine kinderen < 10 jaar is hij terughoudend, hij vindt ze erg spannend. Saul is een echte Podenco in hart en nieren. Heel slim, luistert wanneer het hem uitkomt. Heeft een jachtinstinct, maar niet heel groot. Hij vindt het heerlijk om opzoek te gaan naar beestjes tussen de bladeren en struiken. En in huis is hij het liefst heel dicht bij je. Of dat nou op bed of bank is, dat maakt hem niet uit. Zolang hij maar tegen je aan kan liggen. En van de wandelingen in het bos geniet hij enorm. Aandacht, dat is wat hij wil. Saul is in veel dingen nog erg onzeker. Zo ook naar andere honden en heeft daarin een baas/ hond nodig die hem daarin helpt. Hier leeft hij met 2 andere honden en dat gaat heel goed. Hier is Saul ook wel eens alleen thuis en dat gaat heel goed. Ook als hij helemaal alleen gelaten wordt blijft hij rustig. Maar Saul heeft zeker interactie met andere honden nodig. Saul is dus op zoek naar een 5 sterren hotel met een mooi luxe bed, waar hij het liefst samen in ligt. Samen wandelingen maken, avonturen aangaan met heel veel knuffels en aandacht. Want dat verdient hij! Update15-12-2025 Saul verblijft inmiddels bij een opvanggezin met nog twee honden en daar gaat het hartstikke goed met hem. Saul blijkt een echte knuffelkont en gek op mensen.Saul heeft 5 nieuwe foto's. 8-11-2025 Saul is een vriendelijke, gevoelige Podenco Canario met prachtige, gouden ogen en een zacht karakter. Hij leefde lange tijd samen met een oudere podenco-teef, met wie hij een hechte band had. Nadat zij verhuisde, merkte zijn huidige eigenaar dat hij zonder hondenmaatje minder goed in zijn vel kwam te zitten. Het is duidelijk dat Saul graag samenleeft met een andere hond en dat hij daar veel steun en plezier aan heeft. In huis is Saul aanhankelijk en zoekt hij graag contact met zijn mensen. Met de katten in huis gaat het wisselend: soms ligt hij er rustig naast, soms is hij te lomp of jaloers. Daarom plaatsen we hem liever in een huis waar geen katten zijn, of waar men hier heel zorgvuldig mee kan omgaan. Een stabiele hondenvriend zou voor hem veel rust en balans brengen. Tijdens wandelingen laat Saul zich soms onzeker zien. Hij kan uit angst uitvallen naar grote honden. Met duidelijke begeleiding, structuur en een zelfverzekerde hond naast hem, zal hij hierin zeker kunnen groeien. Hij loopt verder graag mee, maar hij trekt soms wat omdat hij erg enthousiast is en het liefst vrij zou willen rennen. Saul speelt graag, is slim, leert snel en geniet zichtbaar van aandacht en interactie.Hij is gezond, kan met kinderen en met honden, en kan alleen thuisblijven. Autorijden gaat goed zolang hij kan liggen of ergens in zit, anders wordt hij misselijk. Een tuin is voor hem gewenst. Saul zoekt een rustig, warm thuis waar hij zich weer kan ontwikkelen tot de ontspannen, blije hond die hij van nature is. Een plek waar al een vriendelijke hond aanwezig is, zou voor hem perfect zijn.
