Schmusebär Tobi

Male · Senior · 9 years

Schmusebär Tobi is searching for a loving family. Currently in foster care in 26629 Großefehn, Tobi once had a home in Romania, but then sadly his owner passed away. The rest of his family didn't want Tobi anymore and brought him to the animal shelter. For 2 long years, he was there until he was finally noticed and allowed to travel to our foster home. Here, Tobi shows himself to be very people-oriented and friendly. At first glance, he may not seem like it, but Tobi is full of energy! The big guy is a real whirlwind. Therefore, his future people must be firmly grounded. With other dogs, he is only conditionally compatible. He is more compatible with female dogs than with other male dogs. Walking on a leash already works quite well. For the first 50 meters, he still pulls strongly and tries to go his own way, but if this is not allowed, he then walks calmly. Dogs on walks do not interest him, unless they are first teased. Then Tobi must still make a point to the other dog. Additionally, Tobi still has a little fear of cars passing by. Tobi is a great, friendly dog who still needs a lot of training. Although he is supposed to be older, he behaves mostly like an energetic young pup. His work-in-progress areas are still leash handling, jumping up, settling down, and food aggression. His future people should therefore have the desire and time to work with him. Additionally, Tobi is herding dog-type very alert. An active and motivated family with a house and garden in rural surroundings would be ideal for Tobi. Then, hours of snuggling and walks together would no longer be a problem. Age: ca. 18.11.2017 Breed: Herding dog mix Leash handling: in training Likes children: Only with older children Compatible with cats: No Compatible with other dogs: Conditionally Address:. This is a young, adolescent dog.

About Schmusebär Tobi

What life with Schmusebär Tobi looks like

Schmusebär Tobi is a large senior dog waiting at Free Dogs - Vergessene Tiere in Not e.V. in Großefehn.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Schmusebär Tobi, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Schmusebär Tobi?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Free Dogs - Vergessene Tiere in Not e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Schmusebär Tobi on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Schmusebär Tobi if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Free Dogs - Vergessene Tiere in Not e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Schmusebär Tobi already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Schmusebär Tobi isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Free Dogs - Vergessene Tiere in Not e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Schmusebär Tobi and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
