Scotty

European Shorthair · Male · Adult · 10 years

Gender: tomcat, neutered Since us: 9.5.2026 Features: Previously a pure outdoor cat, would like to continue having free roam, enclosure possible, single housing possible Temperament: Shy, reserved, fearful Scotty has a hard and resource-poor life as a street cat behind him. His entire life has been spent fighting outdoors and fathering several litters of kittens, until he was finally secured. The life on the street has left its mark. A likely years-long ear infection has deformed his ears, making his fur dull, and due to a flea saliva allergy, he is covered in bald spots. Now, he can recover at our animal shelter from his life as a street cat. However, he is not yet truly grateful. People were not always good to him, and he has learned to be wary. He observes us suspiciously and sometimes strikes when we get too close. Having had to fight a few other cat battles, he is only conditionally compatible with other cats. By now, he is neutered, his fur is somewhat more groomed, but he still appears worn and tired. It is no longer an option for him to survive on the street. A home where he can simply be himself without any demands placed on him, preferably as a single cat with the option to go out, would be perfect for him. Also, a yard with a warm shed and a place in the straw/heather with regular food and no escapes would be suitable for Scotty. Who will give this handsome tomcat, so marked by his life, a beautiful senior spot?

About Scotty

What life with Scotty looks like

Scotty is a adult european shorthair cat waiting at Tierschutz Eutin und Umgebung e.V. in Eutin.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Scotty, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Scotty?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutz Eutin und Umgebung e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Scotty on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Scotty if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutz Eutin und Umgebung e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Scotty already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Scotty isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutz Eutin und Umgebung e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Scotty and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
