Scrappy

Lurcher · Male · Young · 3 years

Meet our lovely boy Scrappy! Scrappy is ready to start his search for a loving forever home after arriving into our care. This gentle soul is an incredibly sweet and affectionate boy who has quickly won over everyone he's met. Scrappy is looking for patient, experienced owners who can continue building his confidence and help him settle back into home life at his own pace. While he enjoys the company of people he knows and trusts, he can be timid around unfamiliar people and situations, often looking to his bonded humans for reassurance when he feels unsure. Kennel life has been particularly challenging for Scrappy, and he will need understanding owners who can support him through the transition into a home environment. He has shown signs of finding time alone difficult, so experience with separation-related behaviours would be beneficial. He is looking for a home where leaving hours can be kept to a minimum while he settles and learns that being left is nothing to worry about. Scrappy would love a home in a quieter location, away from the hustle and bustle of busy town or city life. He can feel worried when passing unfamiliar dogs on walks but has shown himself to be a friendly lad when given the time and space to approach at his own pace. He could live with sensible older teenagers and adults and would particularly benefit from a multi-carer household, giving him plenty of companionship, consistency and support as he adjusts to his exciting new chapter. With patience and plenty of love, Scrappy has all the makings of a wonderfully loyal companion who will repay his new family with endless affection. About Scrappy

What life with Scrappy looks like

Scrappy is a medium-sized young adult lurcher dog waiting at Battersea Dogs & Cats Home in London.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Scrappy, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Scrappy?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Battersea Dogs & Cats Home handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Scrappy on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Scrappy if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Battersea Dogs & Cats Home will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Scrappy already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Scrappy isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Battersea Dogs & Cats Home early rather than rehoming privately; they know Scrappy and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
