Shadow

Mixed Breed · Unknown · Senior · 9 years

Hello, I am Shadow. A few years ago, I already found shelter at the this breed animal welfare association. My stay there was fortunately only of short duration, allowing me to move to a new family soon. The dream of a forever home unfortunately did not come true, which is why I ended up back at the animal shelter. Setbacks are part of life, but I am not about to be deterred, as I still firmly believe in my big happy ending. I definitely count as one of the active guys, which is why I also look for a sporty family. Whether an extensive walk or a challenging hike, I am ready for every adventure. At six years old, I still do not count as old iron. My quiet phases would be best spent in a house with a garden. I get along well with most other dogs, and I even like to eat with cats. Small children should not live in the same household as I can be rather boisterous at times. I suffer greatly in the animal shelter, and every day is a struggle for me. My handlers do everything to make me feel comfortable, but I still remember how wonderful it was to have a family and always have someone there for me. That is why I am desperately searching for a new home where there is plenty of time for me and where I can stay forever and show how great a guy I am. If you are also a big nature guy like me and have some dog experience, please get in touch. In the meantime, I will still take a few rounds with my walk handlers to make sure I am well-prepared for our first joint tour. The our shelter staff would also like to remind you that as a Malinois-Staffordshire bull terrier mix, I am a listed dog and there are legal requirements to be met in different states! You can also come directly to the animal shelter to inquire. I am looking forward to you, your Shadow!

About Shadow

What life with Shadow looks like

Shadow is a large senior mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein St. Pölten in St. Pölten.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇦🇹Adopting from Austria

Austrian shelters follow the federal Tierschutzgesetz framework: adopters sign a Schutzvertrag (protection contract) committing to the animal's welfare. Spay/neuter, microchip, and vaccinations are included; fees typically range €150–€350.

Frequently asked

Adopting Shadow, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Shadow?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein St. Pölten handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Shadow on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Shadow if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein St. Pölten will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Shadow already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Shadow isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein St. Pölten early rather than rehoming privately; they know Shadow and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
