Sheamy

Dachshund · Male · Adult · 6 years

I can live with older, dog-savvy teens aged 16+ who understand I need space. I need a doggy friend in my new home. I haven’t met cats so I’m unsure. I'd like a secure garden to potter around in. I haven't tried walks yet, a secure garden will be fine for now. Please be patient with me, I need to learn house training and lead walking. I have been neutered and had 19 teeth removed. 22-10-26 Sheamy is a shy boy who has come into our care from a breeder in search of a new start. He is a timid little chap who allows us to approach him for a gentle fuss, although he is not yet confident enough to come over to us himself. He is much livelier when he is with his kennel friends, and it is lovely to see him feeling more comfortable in their company. Sheamy gets on wonderfully with his kennel friends and relies on their company for comfort, so he will need a kind resident dog in his new home, ideally a female, to help guide him and give him the reassurance he needs as he settles in and finds his paws. As Sheamy has never lived in a home before, he will need to learn all about house training, lead training and the other basics of home life. His new family will need to be patient and understanding, allowing him the time he needs to build his confidence and adjust to his new surroundings. He can live with older, dog-savvy teens aged 16+ who understand he needs time to settle in. His adopters will need to have ex-breeding experience, and experience with the breed to better understand his needs. Sheamy has been neutered and had 19 teeth removed at the time of his neutering. With kindness, patience and the support of a friendly canine companion, we hope Sheamy will gradually discover how wonderful life in a loving home can be. Sheamy has been given the Gift of Life by Adam Culech Through the generosity of a Gift of Life sponsor, this dog was able to leave behind an uncertain future in Ireland and find safety and care at Many Tears. Every sponsorship helps us rescue and save more dogs in desperate need. If you would like to become part of a rescue story, please consider donating to our Gift of Life fund. This dog can be homed with a resident dog.

About Sheamy

What life with Sheamy looks like

Sheamy is an adult dachshund dog waiting at Many Tears Animal Rescue in United Kingdom.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Sheamy, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Sheamy?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Many Tears Animal Rescue handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Sheamy on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Sheamy if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Many Tears Animal Rescue will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Sheamy already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Sheamy isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Many Tears Animal Rescue early rather than rehoming privately; they know Sheamy and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
